Russ Feingold: Statements

Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold On the Intelligence Committee's Closed-Door Review of the USA PATRIOT Act

May 26, 2005

I am disappointed that the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence went forward with a closed review of its Patriot Act bill, especially after a bipartisan group of Senators, all of whom have raised concerns about the Patriot Act, asked the Intelligence Committee to conduct its meeting in an open forum. These important issues deserve sunlight and public dialogue, not closed doors and secret meetings. Once the product of this secret meeting becomes available it must get close and public scrutiny in the Judiciary Committee and in the full Senate.
