Agriculture Farm
Bill Bioeconomy
It was also critical that the Farm Bill
update our approach to biofuels and the bioeconomy, since
much has changed in that area since the last Farm Bill passed
in 2002. I was pleased to see the increased focus on biofuels
and the bioeconomy, something I included in the Rural Opportunities
Act. This includes greater attention to new, renewable energy
solutions that will stimulate significant job creation, provide
new opportunities for rural communities, and protect the natural
world for future generations.
I successfully included language in the Senate Farm Bill supporting
regional bioeconomy consortiums, consisting of universities
and state agencies, that research and promote the benefits
of sustainable and locally supported bioenergy. I also supported
language in the bill, based on a previous measure I helped
lead, to provide local residents an opportunity to invest
in bio-refineries located in their communities.
